The Horde Project

The Horde Project is about creating high quality Open Source applications, based on PHP and the Horde Framework.

The guiding principles of the Horde Project are to create solid standards-based applications using intelligent object oriented design that, wherever possible, are designed to run on a wide range of platforms and back-ends.
There is great emphasis on making Horde as friendly to non-English speakers as possible. The Horde Framework currently supports many localization features such as unicode and right-to-left text and generous users have contributed many translations for the framework and applications.

Currently Horde Project boasts many applications, some already enterprise-ready and deployed in demanding environments, and some exciting new ones still in development.

The Horde Project

How We Use It

The Horde Project has been widely used in our organization. As the framework for our OpenVelocity service,  we are quickly able to provide a business ready collaboration suite utilizing modules for email, shared calendaring, shared address books, notes, photo sharing and forums. Additionally, Horde has proven to be valuable in providing the platform to use as a project management tool. Our customers find that the management of projects is extremely profitable when tracked using plug-ins such as the bug tracking system, wiki and task list.

Custom development of the framework has allowed us to utilize Horde as the basis for a number of our custom software development projects. Ports America, one of the largest stevedoring companies in the United States, had requested the development of a customized time tracking system that would be both secure and cost effective based on their requirements. Since the Horde framework already provided the extensive security and modularization needed we were able to save the customer significant development costs as opposed to developing the solution from the ground up.
